Maui and the Ra

Hey guys today I am going to show tell you guys the story about Maui and the Ra or Maui and the sun, you might realise the maori words. That's because I made it more challenging for you guys to understand and to test how much you know about te reo Maori here is my writing

Once upon a time There lived a man call Maui and his 4 other Tuakāna, they lived In an

Iwi and they did everything together, But every day the Rā Seemed to make the daytime shorter.

Maui was so annoyed with the Rā. He wanted to Mau The Ra so that he was slower in daytime so he gathered his Tuākana and they planned to leave the village at sunrise to Mau the Rā. So Maui and his Tuākana got some flax to use when they were going to Mau the Rā.

Early in the morning Maui and his tuākana took off to where the Rā always rose from with their flax ropes . Soon they realized the pūmāhu was getting warmer, after they saw the Rā getting ready to rise so they built a wall of pōhatu then got into position.

The Ra rose and rose, everything got Hotter and hotter. Maui pulled out his hook (jaw of his tupuna tāne) and he told his Tuākana to throw out the flax ropes to stop the Rā from escaping. Maui stood on the wall of pōhatu, he raised his hook, he smacked the Rā on the ihu. He smacked him again then shouted “You gonna slow down from now on?” The Rā cried and shouted “YES! Now let me go my ihu hurts” Maui and his Tuākana didn’t let him go because they didn't trust the Rā so they used the flax ropes to drag him to the village.

The Rā never went fast ever again and from that day he was giving Maui and his tuākana enough daytime.

The end

  1. Thanks Pita,

I really enjoyed reading your blog about Maui and Ra.

You might want to proof read through again as there are some capital letters that are not right and some sentences that should be shorted....let me know if you need help or if you find them.

    Have a great afternoon....Miss P
